  • 4 burger buns (brioche or sesame)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
  • 4 slices fresh pineapple (grilled)
  • 1/2 red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 4 lettuce leaves

Instructions

  1. Make the Teriyaki Sauce:

    • In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
    • Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for about 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
    • If you prefer a thicker sauce, dissolve cornstarch in a little water and stir it into the sauce. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Patties:

    • In a bowl, mix ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
    • Form into 4 patties, slightly larger than the buns.
  3. Toast the Buns:

    • Spread butter on the inside of each bun.
    • Toast in a pan or grill for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Cook the Patties:

    • Heat a pan or grill over medium-high heat.
    • Cook each patty for 3-4 minutes per side until they reach your desired doneness.
    • In the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover to let it melt.
  5. Grill the Pineapple:

    • Grill the pineapple slices for 2-3 minutes per side until caramelized and golden brown.
  6. Assemble the Burgers:

    • Drizzle some of the teriyaki sauce on the bottom bun.
    • Add lettuce, the cheesy beef patty, grilled pineapple, red onion slices, and a drizzle of teriyaki sauce on top.
    • Place the top bun and serve immediately!

Tips for the Best Hawaiian Teriyaki Burger

  • For extra flavor, marinate the beef patties in teriyaki sauce for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • For a smoky touch, try grilling the burgers and pineapple together on a charcoal grill.
  • Add a little heat! Spice it up with sliced jalapeños or a dash of sriracha in the teriyaki sauce.
